Ensuring a better online experience for Valio’s wholesale customers
The Valio Aimo wholesale e-commerce site serves a wide range of restaurants, cafes, commercial kitchens, bakeries, hotels, catering, and industrial customers all over Finland. The service is built to offer everything wholesale food customers need in the kitchen in one place.
When Valio wanted to renew the site, they turned to Vincit for help. We’ve worked closely with Valio as a holistic partner and know the company well, making this a perfect area to continue our cooperation. We completely renewed the e-commerce site as an end-to-end project that included everything from design to implementation.
The challenge – keep ahead of the competition when it comes to customer experience
Competing wholesalers were developing their e-commerce solutions, which meant Valio also had to look and see if they could improve their online experience to keep their customers happy.
Valio wanted to create an easy-to-use, fast, flexible, reliable, and scalable e-commerce solution across different devices. The store would also need to be easily maintainable and developable. Increasing sales and improving self-service possibilities for customers were considered key needs as well.
The renewal project was successful with overall schedule keeping. Vincit’s experts are professionals; the project work and team spirit were good and constructive during the entire project.

An end-to-end solution for a new online store
The renewal of the Aimo e-commerce site started with a user study and a design project for concept renewal as a collaboration between us and Valio. The two-phase user study included both an online survey and a qualitative interview study and helped us to gather an understanding of the needs, requirements, and expectations of key user groups.
The next step was to create a clickable prototype to make the concept concrete and test how the design worked. We further improved the design based on the collected feedback. Once the design was ready, we implemented the online store to support reliability, speed, and usability. This was a true end-to-end project, from customer experience design and e-commerce development all the way to building integrations, doing the service layer, and integrating SAP ERP.
With all of its complexity, this project brought on the typical large-scale project challenges in regard to ensuring consistent quality and keeping the original scope and budget in check. At Valio, the speed of development and venturing into new projects with complex interdependencies has always pushed Vincit to meet these challenges head-on and strive to continuously improve the ways we organize and do our work. The goal is to make sure that the end result meets all expectations – which is why we're also proud of what we have achieved together with Valio.
