Mari Jokiranta - helping to shape what it means to work at Vincit

08/14/2024

Vincit is actively working to expand diversity of thought, and one of the ways to do that is to bring in people with different backgrounds. Mari has worked at Vincit for 5 years and uses her degree in psychology to help bring a new perspective to the company. “I was first recruited to our business development unit as a change management and business consultant where new viewpoints are considered a good thing,” explains Mari.

Adapting to change

Mari has been able to change her work role over the years she’s been at Vincit. At the start of her career, she worked with customer consulting as well as product development for Vincit’s productized leadership tool LaaS (currently Guidin). But when the company changed direction and created new business areas, new opportunities arose for Mari.

“Vincit’s Chief of Operations at the time asked me to come and work for him and do development work internally, so I took the opportunity,” says Mari. At that time, the big thing was the merger between Vincit and Bilot. Mari helped move things forward by analyzing the culture, values, communications, and engagement in both organizations. She planned the next steps, ran the leadership trainings after the merger, and helped unite new ways of working.

A focus on humane leadership

Recently, Mari has worked for the Vincit People team and deals with people-related topics: Vincit’s culture, how the company works, the Vincitizens employee experience, leadership models and development, and coordinating the Vincit leadership forum. “It’s really about checking how people are doing and shaping how we work and lead at Vincit.”

As part of her work, Mari coaches Vincit supervisors, which is a relatively new development in the company. Vincit has grown a lot during the past 5 years, from around 350 to 850 people. This has required adding more structure to the company and meant creating a Vincit model of leadership. “We had to figure out what Vincit leadership looks like, what frameworks to use, and put in place a leadership training program to make sure our supervisors got all the needed information and support.”

It's all about the people

In addition to ensuring good leadership, Vincit also puts a lot of time into creating a humane work life for Vincitizens. The company recently defined their values and culture to clarify what’s important, how Vincit communicates, and how leaders should lead. “We’re going to continue supporting Vincit leaders in how to lead a sustainable business and lead our people in a human-to-human way.”

Looking to the future, Mari will continue to help and guide the change for the benefit of the people who work there. “We’re becoming a more international workplace all the time and really putting effort into DEI goals to help the company move forward.”
