When Mikko started working at Vincit, it was his first “proper” job. He joined as a developer, working with Angular, Node.js, Python, AWS, and Postgres. But just 10 months into his first project, the role of Project Lead opened up and Mikko jumped on the chance to apply for it.
“That’s one of the things I like about Vincit,” says Mikko. “If you’re willing to take on responsibility and take advantage of opportunities, you can find them here.” He continued to work as a Project Lead until a new opportunity arose: the chance to become a Cell Lead.
Helping others to succeed
Working as a Cell Lead has given Mikko the chance to focus on two very different areas: the human side and the business side of work. On the human side, he’s a supervisor for his team and supports the people around him. “There’s a lot of one-to-one discussions, career development, and career coaching – it’s about helping others to find success.”
On the business side, his main responsibility lies with project allocation, making sure the best people from his team or others are assigned to the right projects. Since being a Cell Lead isn’t considered a 100% position, he still finds time to do project work and, for example, expand his skills as a project lead and architect.
What makes Vincit a great place to work
Vincit offers a wide variety of projects to work on. That means Vincitizens get the chance to work with different people, clients, project types, and tech stacks, which boosts skills and industry understanding. “I like variety and want to understand things on a wide scale – Vincit allows for that,” explains Mikko.
Vincit also gives a lot of freedom to Vincitizens. “I like the flexibility Vincit offers – you get to choose what is best: remote, hybrid, or office work. As long as you get the job done, you have freedom.”
Finally, Vincit offers a feeling of community. “We have nice people who work here and want to be part of something great,” says Mikko. “This is not just a place where you work 9 to 5. People want to share experiences and knowledge and spend time together.” As a part of that approach, Vincit offers work events and clubs ranging from beer brewing to tabletop gaming.
Looking to the future
Mikko plans to continue to evolve his role at the company based on how things change. He also has some advice for potential future colleagues: “The great thing about working here is that you can become what you want at Vincit. If you have the drive and skills, you can become a Project Lead, Lead Consultant, Cell Lead, and so on. There are a lot of opportunities here if you’re willing to take the next step.”
